Relations between Türkiye and Estonia, 19.06.2026

Estonia's independence on 24 February 1918, was recognized by Türkiye on 23 January 1924, three months after the proclamation of the Turkish Republic. The foundation of our relations with Estonia is based on the "Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation" signed on 1 December 1924. Following Estonia's regaining its independence on 20 August 1991 diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Estonia were re-established with the Joint Declaration signed on 23 October 1991.

Türkiye and Estonia enjoy friendly relations and close cooperation. Türkiye’s non-recognition of the Soviet occupation of Estonia and it’s strong support for Estonia's NATO membership have played a significant role in the positive development of relations. Likewise, Estonia's support for Türkiye’s EU candidacy also impacts relations in a positive way. Türkiye and Estonia maintain close cooperation also within important international organizations such as the UN, NATO, and the Council of Europe.

Regarding the recent high level visits, President Alar Karis visited Türkiye on 26-28 June 2024, and Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna visited on 31 October 2025.
